NITTE-NAMASTE CONCLAVE 2024

The NAMASTE Centre at the Nitte University along with the faculty of NUCSER, organized a 2-day National Conference on "Health, Food Security and Environment in North East India: Issues & Challenges" on 1st & 2nd March 2024 at the university campus, Mangalore. The conference was inaugurated by Dr L N Murthy, Chief Executive, National Fisheries Development Board, GoI.

Nitte University established the 'NAMASTE Centre for Studies on NE States' in the year 2015 with the aim of connecting emotionally and culturally with the NE states of the country. The establishment of this centre was a result of the unstinting efforts of Late Shri P B Acharya, former Governor of Nagaland, who was a messiah of love and brotherhood for our fellow countrymen in NE India. Over the years, the NAMASTE Centre at Nitte through its diverse activities has been instrumental in developing a close connection with the people of NE India. Some of the major activities of the Centre include conduct of certificate programs on NE dialects, collaborative research in healthcare, solidarity cultural exchange programs for students/faculty and higher education opportunities to NE students in the form of full tuition fee waiver.

One of the major highlights of the conference was the uniqueness associated with the event, that allowed scientific deliberations on issues pertaining to NE states of the country by bringing in experts & scientists from various domains under a common platform, in a university located in south west India. The deliberations were extremely productive and resulted in creation of several new connections and identification of areas where Nitte DU could contribute to mitigating the issues, through collaborative efforts.

The conference also included a cultural extravaganza, put together by the students of the university that included a display of the tradition & culture of NE states along with a breath-taking compilation of the traditional dance forms of Karnataka.

Prof. (Dr.) Anirban Chakraborty, Director and Dean, Faculty of Biological Sciences, NUCSER was the organizing chairman of the conference and Dr. Gunimala Chakraborty, HoD, Molecular Genetics & Cancer, NUCSER and Coordinator, NAMASTE Centre, was the organizing secretary. Two Central Universities in NE India - Central Agricultural University, Imphal and Tripura University, Agartala were co-hosts of this conference.

A total of 301 delegates including faculty, research scholars and students participated in the conference.
